PROFESSIONAL SPEAKER DONNA SATCHELL RECEIVES "SPIRIT AWARD" FROM GEORGIA CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL SPEAKERS ASSOCIATION (NSA)

Stone Mountain, GA – (September 15 , 2006)  -- Donna Satchell, a Stone Mountain, Georgia resident, received the Spirit Award from the Georgia Chapter of the National Speakers Association (NSA)  for her outstanding commitment.  This is the first time the chapter has presented this particular award.  Donna is a professional speaker, trainer, author and President of STARR Consulting & Training as well as an active and dedicated member of the Georgia Chapter of NSA.

The immediate past president of the chapter, Paul Johnson, said of Donna “She is the person in our organization that everyone wants to be around.  Donna lifts you up, even if you are down.  You can count on her to follow through on everything she does.  She brings the attitude, advice and actions that really make a difference for us”.

Donna believes that we should contribute as much as possible to the organizations we join.  The results are feeling a sense of personal satisfaction, creating a team-player reputation, and developing the habit of going beyond the call of duty that extends into other areas of our lives.

Below are her tips on how to contribute more to your organization as well as grow personally:

  1. Undertake roles or find areas that are natural fit for you.  In Donna’s case, it was being the chapter’s unofficial photographer.  Although not a professional, she loves taking pictures.  What experience or expertise do you have?  What areas or roles interest you?  They could be public relations, membership, fund-raising, leadership, etc.

  2. Find people who can support your efforts in case you need help when you are absence, overwhelmed with non-organization responsibilities or temporarily unable to fulfill your role or tasks.  Do not wait until you have the need, get people lined up in advance who are willing to assist you.

  3. Hold yourself personally responsible for the follow-up and outcome.  Even if you get others to help you, know that the buck stops with you.  Take ownership of what you committed to do and make sure it gets done.  Take your role or contribution seriously.

  4. Recognize the efforts of those who support you.  Remember to say a heartfelt thank you and let others know about those who helped you.  A small gift may be in order.  A little recognition can go a long way in getting people to continue to work with you.

  5. Look to develop your skills and abilities in the area which you have chosen to contribute. This may mean taking a class, reading a book or seeking advice from others with more experience.
